Best practices for saree wash & care

At Aprudha, we care about the effort that has gone in giving life to the saree. Right from the stage when the saree comes out of the loom, we adhere to a strict quality guideline for wash and care. We request you to follow the recommended practices to get the best out of your saree.

Storing

Since silk and cotton are earth-friendly in nature, you need to treat them with care. Store each saree separately. Use a muslin or similar cloth to wrap the saree before placing it in a plastic or other cloth-based container.  Do not place any chemicals in the container.

Store the sarees in room temperature, avoiding too cold, hot or humid climate. It has been observed that silk sarees decay when untouched and stored for several years. You should bring the saree out from time to time and let it breathe.

Washing

Always use a dry wash technique. We recommend you give the saree to a dry cleaner. You should avoid using strong detergents and softeners. The raw silk is often dyed to come up with the colors you love. These earth-friendly dyes may lead to some loss of colors on first wash. We recommend you use a color fixer for best results.

Ironing

We recommend the use of roll press or similar technique. The sarees are delicate, you should not try to iron the silk sarees on your own. Please ask your dry cleaner to follow the instructions on iron manual.

Wearing

Avoid use of harsh perfumes. Spraying directly on sarees could lead to discoloring or decay in the area. These are pure sarees and need to be worn carefully. If you feel that the saree you purchased has too much starch, you should get it dry washed a few times. Avoid any food stains on saree.

The hand-woven sarees  often have a low thread count and may get damaged when too much pressure is applied. Avoid stepping on the saree, pinning or pulling it.

Weavers might have spent several days carefully crafting them for you. Wear them with pride.
